Unscrupulous dealers in NI will offer you a “new” Royal Enfield at a discount price and tell you there is no duty to pay. What you will in fact get is a previously registered motorcycle, so effectively pre-owned, that has not been declared at customs and that WILL require a customs declaration for entry to ROI and WILL require customs duty to be paid, currently 6%. These dealers are ILLEGALLY EVADING the duty payable for goods entering the EU and YOU will therefore need to arrange the customs declaration yourself or pay a specialist to do it, you WILL need to submit the motorcycle to the NCTS (bear in mind you will have to transport the motorcycle in a van or on a trailer), wait a couple of weeks for the registration process, pay your transport, VRT, VAT, Customs Duty, arrange a number plate and hope that you never need to claim on the warranty because the warranty will not be honoured in ROI.
