A Foxhunter’s Dream - Alfred Charles Havell Published April 15th 1890 By Messers Fores 41 Piccadilly London Alfred Charles Havell (British, 1855-1928) While his father, Edmund Havell Junior, was recognized as Queen Victoria’s portraitist, Alfred chose to deviate from tradition, focusing primarily on the art of painting horses and gained renown for his expertise in depicting sporting scenes. Alfred was a member of the Havell family of painters with roots in Reading, although he himself was born in Chelsea and passed away in 1928.
