Description
A vintage Atsonia round convex mirror, often referred to as a "butler's mirror" or "fish-eye mirror". Featuring a gilt (gold-coloured) frame with decorative ball embellishments, a design typical of the Regency style- Regency style was popular in the early 19th century and often featured in dining halls of the period. Historically, these were known as "butler's mirrors" because the wide-angle view allowed butlers to observe a whole room (e.g., guests' progress during a meal) without being intrusive. The convex (outwardly curved) glass creates a unique, wide-angle, and diminished reflection, which adds depth and can amplify natural light in a room. The mirror frame has a fluted inner ebonized slip (black trim) and a gilt frame with ball decorations. Atsonia where incredibly good at making reproduction pieces in the 1930s and this is no exception. It measures Frame Diameter 67cm Mirror Diameter 44cm The mirror is in great condition There are some slight losses to the plaster frame but nothing serious. Take a look at the pictures. I travel from Kenmare to Galway quite often if it helps on the delivery side of things as it is quite heavy and large.
