Carters were renowned makers of invalid and surgical furniture from the Victorian era through the mid-20th century, supplying quality pieces for home nursing and convalescent care. This mahogany tray table features shaped, scalloped sides with cut-out carrying handles, and a clever ratchet strut mechanism allowing the top to tilt for reading or writing, plus turned legs that fold flat for storage or transport. Stamped with serial number 61325 and bearing the original maker's plaque to the underside.
