Antique Catholic Procession Banner

A beautiful early 20th century authentic double-sided Irish Catholic procession banner. Dating back to the 1920s. Hand embroidered 'St Micheal Pray for us', with shamrock motifs and the monogram 'M' for the Virgin Mary onto a silk gold damask background with tassles and stitched edges. The hanging pins are stamped 'Thomas', which means this was commissioned from Thomas Brown & Son, Manchester. They were supplying high-end banners to Irish parishes and convents during this era. It has some age related creasing and staining to the silk and one piece of loose embroidery (see pictures for condition), otherwise, what a lovely piece of Irish history. Dimensions 51cm w x 86cm
