Description
Overview: For sale is a beautiful, authentic French Art Nouveau spill vase dating from around 1900. This piece features classic Belle Époque styling with sweeping, organic "whiplash" handles that flow seamlessly into an asymmetrical rim, beautifully adorned with a high-relief climbing rose motif. Maker & Material: The base is clearly stamped with the maker's mark for L&F Moreau (Louis and François Moreau), a highly celebrated French artistic dynasty of the 19th and early 20th centuries. True to the period, the vase is cast in spelter (régule) with its original electroplated bronze patina finish. Key Selling Point: Crucially, this vase includes its original, removable internal metal liner sleeve. Because spelter is porous, these liners were structurally necessary to hold water, but they were frequently lost or discarded over the last century. Finding a piece with the liner completely intact is a major plus for collectors. Condition Report: • Overall: Good antique condition with a wonderful, untouched aged character. • Finish: Shows natural wear, surface dust in the deep crevices, and minor verdigris spotting consistent with its 125-year age. • Structure: Sound and solid. No visible cracks or structural repairs.
