Brass Fox Wall Ornament

A decorative wall plaque in the form of a fox mask with crossed hunting whips or sticks, done in brass and copper. Inspired by English fox-hunting traditions and historically made as equestrian or country-house style wall ornaments. • Size & weight: fairly substantial at 26 × 24 cm and just under a kilo. • Material: Brass and copper, cast rather than sheet • Condition: In good shape. Hole between foxes eyes (see picture), not sure if that’s on purpose! • Age: Hard to be exact without markings. Similar ones were produced in the late 19th century, but many date from the mid-20th century (1950s–70s). The finish and construction suggest this is more likely a mid-20th century decorative piece rather than a Victorian original.
