Description
A caulker drove wool or hemp between the joints of a wooden ship. This was hammered home with the use of chisel-like caulking tools and a caulker's mallet. His tools were stored in a tool box like this one. The tool box also served as a seat while he worked., allowing him to bend over the plank seams easily. This toolbox measures 14" x 12" x 5". The box is made of pine, the lid looks like elm. It was originally covered in tar. The interior to the tool box is original while the outside was painted over in black paint. Original antique item for collectors.
