German antique, eclectic chapel-type mantel clock

A German Wurttemberg Mantle Alarm Clock . Produced at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries (ca. 1890–1920). These types of cabinet and table clocks were the flagship products of famous German manufacturers of the period, such as H.A.U. (Hamburg Amerikanische Uhrenfabrik), Junghans, and Kienzle. A distinctive wooden chest modeled after sacred architecture (hence the name "chapel"), it features rich, eclectic decorations: turned columns on the sides, decorative pinnacles at the top, and a carved cornice. Many examples of this particular model were equipped with an alarm clock mechanism integrated into the base, featuring a miniature drum music box (instead of the traditional gong), which played a melody at the set time.
