Graiguenamanagh Abbey Kilkenny Pair 1797 Prints

1797 pair of antique prints, copper plate engravings of Graiguenamanagh Abbey, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The abbey was founded around 1204 by William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke, who brought Cistercian monks from Stanley Abbey in Wiltshire to settle in the Barrow valley. It is more commonly known as Duiske Abbey, and became one of the largest and finest medieval Cistercian houses in Ireland. The engraving is dated as printed by S Hooper in Holborn, London in 1792 , however this work was not actually published until 1797. Engraver is Barrett. The engravings have an impressed area size of 8 by 6 inches with the engraving measuring 7 inches by 5 inches. The overall paper size is 12 1/2 by 9 inches.
