Late Victorian Procession Banner

A beautiful late 19th, early 20th century authentic double-sided Irish Catholic procession banner. Hand embroidered 'St Charles Pray for us', with shamrock motifs and the monogram 'M' for the Virgin Mary onto a silk background with gold tassles and stitched edges. This was commissioned from Thomas Brown & Son, Manchester. They were supplying high-end banners to Irish parishes and convents during this era. It has some age related creasing and staining to the silk and has two slight tears (see pictures for condition), otherwise, what a lovely piece of Irish history. Dimensions 51cm w x 86cm
