National Ballads Songs & Poems- Thomas Davis

First edition (?) of Thomas Davis book of National Ballads Songs and Poems. Published by James Duffy & Co Wellington Quay Dublin in 1869, this is a rare find and in excellent condition for its age. Thomas Osborne Davis (1814-1845) was certainly the voice, through his poetry and writings in "The Nation," of the Young Ireland Movement; he died prior to its fruition in the Uprising of 1848. One of the founders of "The Nation" in 1842; This collection came out four years later.There is no publication date but it is noted as "A New and Revised Edition" on the Title Page. This suggests that this is the edition that came out in 1869 .Green cloth binding with titling in gilt on the spine. The front cover has an Irish harp in gilt; the front and the rear has a stamped Duffy & Co Dublin marking. See photos for content detail.
