Extremely rare and unusual antique mechanical wheel bellows, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century (George III/Regency era). Constructed from solid hardwood featuring decorative brass star inlays, a brass-studded cylinder housing, and a sweeping copper nozzle with a brass tip. Unlike traditional folding leather bellows, this utilizes a crank-operated rotary fan mechanism to push a continuous stream of air into the fire. It works perfectly and spins smoothly. A fantastic, functional piece of history that would have originally belonged to a grand period home. Ideal for antique collectors, historic home restorations, or as a stunning focal point for a large hearth. (Note: The drive belt has been temporarily replaced with a modern band to keep it functioning, but this could easily be swapped for a traditional leather cord by the new owner.)
