Description
A silver-plated spirit kettle in the style of Christopher Dresser (a pioneer of modern industrial design). Vessels of this type are characterized by a geometric, minimalist form, a wide, flattened body, and a high, arched handle made of ebonite or ebonized wood, designed to prevent burns. Originally, these kettles were part of a set and rested on a special stand equipped with a spirit burner to keep the tea warm. This style was immensely popular at the turn of the 20th century (spanning the Victorian and Edwardian eras) and was produced by renowned manufacturers such as The Sheffield Cutlery Shop and Fenton Brothers Antiques Boutique.
