Stained Glass Snug Partitions - The Hilltop Bar, Carrigahorig, Co. Tipperary

Three original wooden snug partitions with stained glass, from The Hilltop Bar in Carrigahorig, Co. Tipperary. The Hilltop was one of fifteen public houses recorded in the parish of Lorrha and Dorrha. It was run for years by the Flynn family — Ned Flynn, and after him his daughters Mai and Nonie, both schoolteachers, who opened mostly at weekends, sold bottled beer only and kept a small grocery alongside the bar. It passed later to Johann and Brid Scharnenweber, and in 1989 to P.J. Kenny, whose son Peter took it on after him. The pub's history is recorded in the Lorrha & Dorrha Historical Society's account of the parish's public houses. By the time I bought the building in 2016 it had long ceased trading and was in residential use. The building itself has since been demolished. These partitions and the glass in them are what's left of it. Genuine architectural salvage — not reproduction, not a reclaimed-look import. The timber carries the wear you would expect of a working bar. Two are sound throughout. The third has some damage to the stained glass, clearly shown in the photographs. Suited to a home bar, a snug, a pub refurbishment, or any interior that wants something with a real history behind it. Ten photographs attached, including close-ups of the glass.
