Victorian Cast Iron Desk Embosser Seal

An antique cast iron desktop embossing press dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. This heavy-duty mechanical office tool is in great working condition with connections to County Tipperary, Ireland. The brass matrix plates are deeply and crisply engraved with the institutional seal: "CONVENT OF MERCY, BALLYCARRON, GOLDEN, CO. TIP." The Sisters of Mercy have a profound history in the region, and this press would have been used by the convent leadership to officially validate legal deeds, property documents, and educational records.
