Very interesting WW1 officers field compass case by T French & Son London 1917.The inside of the cover is signed J.E Lowry R.I.R(Royal Irish Regiment).Joseph Ewart Lowry is well documented.He was born in 1898 in Bachelors Lodge Navan Co.Meath (where this piece came from) and attended Campbell College Belfast in 1914.He joined the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment and was promoted to second lieutenant.He was killed in action on the 25 of August 1918 in Bapaume -Eure et Loir Northern France.Known as the second Battle of Bapaume and part of the wider Second Battle of the Somme.He was 20 years old. And is buried in Adanac Military Cemetery .This is a fascinating piece of history especially for anyone interested in Irish Regiments in WW1.I can post for €11 registered insured post.Thank
