Native Tree Area Grant

Earn €2,206 for 2.5 acres a year for 10 years! The Native Tree Area scheme allows for the creation of small native woodlands on farms up to a maximum of 2 hectares per farm. The Native Tree Area scheme does not require an afforestation license; instead entry is the same as other agri-environmental schemes with an approval time of 4 to 8 weeks. The scheme allows for two 1 hectare forests to be created on your farm, 1 hectare that can be made up of multiple blocks across the farm and 1 hectare beside watercourses and rivers. The premiums are available for 10 years at a rate of €2,206 per annum tax free as with all forestry premium payments. An afforestation grant of €5,058 per hectare is allocated to cover the costs of the planting works. A further grant of €1,686 is allocated for maintenance works up until the forest is 4 years old. Non-farmers and farmers receive the same payments. Applications are made online through the Departments online system and the applications are submitted by a register forester. What can Neville Timber Products do for you? - Survey the site for suitability to enter into the scheme and possible species mixes that will suite the soil types. - Apply for funding to plant the site on the owners behalf. - Once approval has been given, the site will be cultivated if required and planted with Irish grown native trees. - Fencing and/or tree shelters to protect the plants is provided as per the application submitted. - All paper work to be completed and returned to the Department for processing and payment of grants and first years premiums. - All maintenance works will be carried out until year 4.
