Birchwood TS37 GRP

Babushka is a Birchwood TS37 GRP Aft Cabin/Flybridge offshore and coastal cruiser built in 1987. Babushka is fitted with twin BMW Marine D636 inboard diesel engines. These engines are inline 6 cylinder, 3.6 litre, turbocharged units producing 180hp @ 3800rpm (each engine). Hurth HBW360A hydraulic reversing gearbox with a reduction ratio of 2.2:1. Engine cooling is an indirect system using raw water drawn in through weed filters and pumped through engine mounted heat exchangers before exiting via wet exhausts. Engine and gearbox control is via Morse control levers (two mounted at each helm position) connected through a splitter system. Steering is dual station hydraulic with a balanced brass ram and two manual steering pumps. This vessel is fitted with a Vetus 12v DC electric bow thruster (tested, serviceable). Babushka has both 12v DC and 230v AC electrical power systems fitted onboard. Two 12v/110Ah batteries provide power for onboard services such as freshwater pump, lighting and bilge pump. Two 12v/110Ah batteries provide power for engine cranking and bow thruster. These batteries are split into two banks, are wired through battery isolation switches and charged through a split charging diode by the engine alternators and onboard Cetrek 12v mains powered battery charger. Shore power is supplied by a 230v/16A shore supply cable that plugs into a 16A waterproof socket on the aft deck. The 230v AC supply was correctly wired through a RCD. Stainless steel freshwater tank is fitted beneath the aft berth. Water is supplied under pressure by a 12v freshwater pump. Hot water is supplied by a calorifier mounted beneath the steps that lead down to the galley forward of the engines. The calorifier is heated by the port engine coolant circuit while underway or by a 230v immersion heater.
