Description

I have an East German Folkboat which I’m looking to give away to a good home. She is afloat and currently in Kinsale. I am giving her away due to an illness in the family and so the boat will no longer be used. I have a Yanmar 1GM10 engine that is not currently fitted. She is a wooden boat from 1964 so needs some love and attention. A new plywood deck was installed in approximately 2018. I had a trailer built for her. She was sailed from Baltimore to Kinsale in 2021. Between Covid and illness she hasn’t been used much since then, but I have kept her in the water. The trailer is in Baltimore and will need to be trailed by the new owner. I will assist with arranging. When I say I’m looking for her to go to a good home, I’m not looking for money for the boat. But I am looking for someone to pay for the cost of taking her out of the water and recommissioning the trailer. This will also need to be done in the next month (July 2025). East German Folkboats were built with carvel planking of mahogany on oak frames, presenting a smooth hull finish. This model also has a slightly elevated coachroof, which provides increased cabin room and headroom. East German-built Folkboats have an overall length of approximately 7.64 metres (25 feet 1 inch), a waterline length (LWL) of around 6.00 metres (19 feet 8 inches), a beam of roughly 2.20 metres (7 feet 3 inches), and a draft of approximately 1.20 metres (3 feet 11 inches). Their displacement typically ranges from 1,930 kg to 2,150 kg, and they carry a total sail area of about 26.0 square metres (280 sq ft). These boats are renowned for their seaworthiness. Their simple design and relative affordability ensured their popularity for both recreational cruising and club racing within the Eastern Bloc and, in some Western countries. Many East German Folkboats continue to be actively sailed and restored today. Please message before calling as I am not available to take calls at work.
