Description
Botanical prints from the Hortus Eystettensis In the early 1600s the Bishop of Eichstatt in southern Germany developed a great botanical garden, with all the shrubs and flowering plants known at the time. It included the latest imports from the Orient and America. He then commissioned a monumental picture book of the plants. Elaborately prepared copper engravings were used to produce an enormous book with more than 360 plates, showcasing more than 1,000 species, which became the Hortus Eystettensis (Garden of Eichstett). From this great work, 27 lavish botanical prints have been selected for this book, including images of tulips, irises, roses etc. Each print measures 10 ins by 13 ins and is suitable for framing. Very good condition, except for slight wear and tear on cover.
