Two books by renowned Irish writer John McGahern. Amongst Women was published in 1990 . It’s about a controlling, aging IRA veteran, Michael Moran. Set against the backdrop of a rapidly modernizing rural Ireland, the story chronicles his domestic tyranny over his submissive wife and children, who both fiercely love and fear him. The Dark , set in rural Ireland, is about adolescence and a guilty, yet uncontrollable sexuality that is contorted and twisted by both puritanical state religion and a strange, powerful and ambiguous relationship between son and widower father. Both books showing some aging but still in very good condition.
