Description

Boosey & Hawkes “Edgware” A Clarinet – Vintage Wooden Instrument – Made in England (c.1971) Price: €150 Selling a vintage Boosey & Hawkes Edgware A clarinet, serial number 395493A, made in the Edgware factory in England around 1971–72. This is a wooden A clarinet with nickel-plated keywork and the original Boosey & Hawkes bell. It comes in its original hard case. Condition The body joints and bell are wooden and in good condition for their age. There are a few small 3-4mm chips on the outer surface. The barrel is a later replacement (plastic), which works well, and imparts excellent environmental stability. Pads and mechanisms are functional, but like most vintage clarinets it would *definitely* benefit from a full service or setup to play at its best, which could be pricey given the clarinet's age (talking €200-500, depending on how much work you would like done). Please note - this clarinet was last fully serviced by Paul Ryan, woodwind specialist, Dublin, maybe 8 years ago. It has not been played much since, and has been collecting dust. All keys move freely. Intonation is good with a Vandoren BD5 mouthpiece (not included), and currently, IT IS in good playing condition. https://youtube.com/shorts/dXGw6Hna0eM?si=aH129YtAG1mn9mBU A clarinet in A is essential for some orchestral and exam repertoire, but brand new ones can cost €1700+ (e.g., the Buffet Crampon E13). This is a great affordable option for a student, community orchestral player, doubler, or collector of vintage British instruments, who wouldn't mind getting some extra repair work done. Included Clarinet in A (upper & lower joints) Bell (original Boosey & Hawkes Edgware) One barrel (plastic) Original hard case Reason for sale? I already own two modern clarinets (Bb and A) and no longer need this one. I last used this between 2014 and 2018 for orchestral work as a student.
