Volkswagen ID. Polo: Volkswagen's Most Affordable Electric Car Yet Confirmed Under €20,000

Volkswagen has officially pulled the wraps off the all-new ID. Polo, and Irish drivers will be among the first in the world to get their hands on it — with pricing confirmed to start from €19,885 after SEAI grants and VRT relief.

The announcement came on April 29th as Volkswagen revealed the car's world premiere, with Volkswagen Ireland simultaneously confirming local pricing that puts the ID. Polo firmly in reach of everyday buyers.

The new model arrives on Volkswagen's updated MEB+ platform with front-wheel drive, and will be offered in three power outputs — 115hp, 135hp, and a more potent 211hp — paired with two battery sizes of 37kWh and 52kWh net. The larger battery delivers a claimed WLTP range of up to 454km.

Inside, Volkswagen has kept physical buttons and rotary controls alongside digital displays, a move clearly aimed at buyers put off by the all-screen approach of some rivals. Boot space comes in at 441 litres — generous for the class.

Styling-wise, the ID. Polo is the first production car to wear Volkswagen's new 'Pure Positive' design language, promising cleaner lines and a more aerodynamic profile than its combustion-engined predecessor.

Alan Bateson, Director of Volkswagen Ireland, said the car is designed to make electric motoring genuinely accessible: "Launching at a price below €20,000 sends a clear signal of Volkswagen Ireland's ambition: to make electric mobility truly accessible, without compromise."

Orders are expected to open in July 2026, with first deliveries pencilled in for Q4 2026. Buyers can register their interest now at volkswagen.ie/idpolo ahead of full pricing and spec details being released in the coming weeks.
