New Renault Megane E-Tech Electric Revealed with 500km Range and Faster Charging

First launched in 2022 as the debut model on Renault's dedicated electric vehicle platform, the Megane E-Tech electric has been refreshed across four key areas: design, electric performance, connectivity and range structure — a clear signal that Renault intends to keep it competitive in the crowded C-segment EV market.

The updated Megane gets a significantly reworked front end with a new lighting signature, redesigned grille and a sportier bumper, changes Renault says give the car a stronger road presence.

The trim range has been simplified to just two versions:

• Techno
• Esprit Alpine

A new Satin Blue exterior colour joins the palette, while the Esprit Alpine version adds distinctive styling elements and rides on 20-inch alloy wheels as standard.

The headline change is a new 67kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery delivering up to 500km of WLTP range. The battery uses cell-to-pack technology, which Renault says improves efficiency and usable energy capacity.

It's paired with a 220hp (160kW) electric motor producing 300Nm of torque, giving a 0-100km/h time of 7.6 seconds.

DC rapid charging speed has increased to 165kW, up from 130kW, allowing a 15-80% charge in approximately 24 minutes. An 11kW AC charger is standard, with a 22kW AC charger available as an option — a useful upgrade for anyone with access to three-phase public chargers.

The Megane also retains its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, which lets owners power external devices — anything from laptops to e-bikes — directly from the car's battery.

Irish pricing, specifications and launch timing will be announced closer to the updated model's market introduction. The Megane E-Tech electric is expected to remain a key contender in Ireland's growing compact electric vehicle segment, where it competes with cars like the Volkswagen ID.3, Cupra Born and MG4.

The Megane continues with Renault's OpenR Link cockpit, built around a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch central touchscreen with Google built-in. That includes Google Maps with EV route planning, Google Assistant voice control and access to more than 100 downloadable apps through Google Play. Renault has confirmed that Google Gemini AI will be integrated in future updates.

Other technology upgrades include:

• One-Pedal Driving function
• Optional driver recognition system
• Qi2/Magsafe-compatible wireless smartphone charging
• Smart Mode, which automatically switches between Eco, Comfort and Sport settings

On the safety side, the updated Megane carries more than 30 driver assistance systems, including Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Stop Assist, Predictive Eco Driving Advice, and Safety Score and Safety Coach functions.
