Lunar has turned an island bed through 45 degrees and put its head against the nearside wall. You get walking space along its foot and a more open feel to the bedroom area than in a layout with a longitudinal island bed. It’s a popular option – little wonder, then, that Lunar takes the TI into 2012 unchanged. The Delta’s in the top price bracket and it has all the kit you’d expect, including an Alde central heating system. We’re surprised to see that the caravan’s weight is only 1735kg (MTPLM) – that’s amazingly light for a near-eight-metre caravan with two axles and a 175-litre fridge. Only the Bailey Unicorn Barcelona, at 1756kg, has a comparable weight for the same length. Deltas have the AL-KO ATC trailer stability control system that applies small amounts of brake pressure if it detects that the caravan has moved out of alignment. We’ve towed a lot of ATC-equipped caravans, on single and twin axles, and the reassurance of its presence makes for a more relaxing tow. On this test, a 20-mile journey to a campsite north of Lunar’s Preston factory and back, the Delta demonstrated its capability at 60mph with perfect stability on motorways (no hint of twitch as we overtook lorries in fairly windy conditions). Many people assume that four-berth vans with fixed double beds are for couples.
