I am generally reluctant to write reviews, but in the case of Colm Quinn, the authorised BMW retailer in Drogheda, and in particular Robert McCarthy, the sales representative I dealt with, I felt it was necessary. I visited the dealership without any specific plan and was immediately impressed by the level of attention and respect I received. Being listened to is a critical quality in any business, and it was clear from the outset that this was a priority for Robert. Over the past 25 years, I have purchased six new BMWs from various dealerships, and my consistent impression has been that the process was conducted more on the dealer’s terms than on my own. I appreciate that there are commercial constraints regarding timing and availability, but the experience has often felt one-sided. With Robert, however, the approach was very different. He listened carefully, engaged with me in an open and straightforward manner, and took the time to guide me through the available stock. I had no fixed idea of what I wanted when I arrived, yet I left with an X3 30e M Sport PHEV—a car I thoroughly enjoy driving—and received a very competitive trade-in price for my previous vehicle. Quite frankly, had it not been for Robert’s professionalism, openness and instinctive ability to build trust, I would not have made this purchase. It reinforced for me that success in sales is not simply about the number of cars sold, but about the manner in which they are sold.
