Genuine Piece of Irish Sporting History for sale is an exceptionally rare, museum-quality sterling silver winner's medal from the 1889 Wexford Senior Football Championship.The GAA was founded in late 1884, making this medal an incredibly early artifact from the absolute infancy of organized Gaelic games. The championship that year was won by the legendary Wexford town club, the Blues and Whites (who later went on to win Wexford’s first All-Ireland football title in 1893).Item Details & Features:Obverse (Front): Beautifully detailed, crisp Victorian-era relief depicting a football player in mid-stride running toward a traditional heavy leather ball.Reverse (Back): Hand-engraved with "Co Wexford Championship 1889".Material: Solid sterling silver.Hallmarks: Fully hallmarked on the lower arm of the cross (includes the Lion Passant .925 stamp and date letters) with an additional tiny stamp on the top loop. Condition: Excellent historical condition with fantastic detail retention to the central figure. The top suspension loop is slightly pinched from decades of being worn on a watch fob chain, adding to its authentic antique character.
