Description
1922 Padraig Pearse Voice of the Easter Rising Irish Free State Silver Medal A COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL, depicts Pádraig Pearse alongside the Sword of Light, which was the name of the newspaper he edited on behalf of the Gaelic League. The reverse features the words 'sworn to be free' in Gaelic and English, taken from 'Amhrán na bhFiann' ('A Soldier's Song'). This symbolises the journey that was continued by Michael Collins which eventually paved the way for the establishment of an Irish Free State in 1922 – and in so realised the vision of Pádraig Pearse and the Seven Signatories. This medal honours Pádraig Pearse as the Voice of the Easter Rising and commemorates their ultimate victory. Layered in Pure Silver and in its protective case. Note from the photo that a piece of the protective case is missing on the rear of the medal. (T16)
