This antique silver-plated tea and coffee service shares its distinctive half-fluted design with pieces produced by premier British silversmiths James Dixon & Sons in Sheffield. The personalized engraving ties the set to James Atherton Smallshaw, a mining engineer from Lancashire who bought Arscott Colliery in Shropshire in 1880. The inscription celebrates his marriage in June 1903, which aligns with historical records showing his family business expanding during this exact period. The markings on the bottom of your piece confirm that this is a high-quality electroplated set manufactured by the renowned British silversmiths James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, England. The Bugle Mark: The symbol stamped at the top is James Dixon & Sons' official corporate logo—a bugle with a banner attached to it. EPBM: This stands for Electroplated Britannia Metal.
