The personalized engraving ties the set to James Atherton Smallshaw, a mining engineer from Lancashire who bought Arscott Colliery in Shropshire in 1880. The inscription celebrates his marriage in June 1903, which aligns with historical records showing his family business expanding during this exact period. The markings on the bottom of your piece confirm that this is a high-quality electroplated set manufactured by the renowned British silversmiths James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, England.
