Pair of Dutch Chalkware Figurines

Pair of large chalkware Dutch figurines. Early to mid 20th century "garden greeters" that would sit on either side of your front door or pathway. They could be part of a fairytale garden set (Hansel & Gretel), or in later years, they were made as inside ornaments for cottages and the likes. Some say they were prizes in a carnival...I'm running with that. They have signs of wear to the paint, but they still have a lovely glaze. Makes me think they were kept inside.
