Description
Rare Italian Banknote 100 Lire, Emergency MINIASSEGNI Banknote, in very good condition During the mid-1970s, there was a coinage crisis in Italy, when coins for small change were in short supply, Italian Banks and some businesses printed 'Miniassegni' in various Lire denominations, most commonly of 50, 100, 150 and 200 Lire Banknotes. Technically these were bearer cheques and were supplied to the banks' retail customers for use in their shops or businesses to give change to customers - they were in widespread use from 1975 until 1977, when the supply of coins began again. These small banknotes were accepted as substitute legal currency.
