Description
The 1911 George V Full Sovereign Gold Coin. Minted during the reign of King George V, this coin features a sovereign denomination and is made of 22ct gold and weighs 7.9grams. The obverse of the King George V 1911 Gold Sovereign depicts the bare head portrait, designed by Bertram Mackennal. This effigy of King George V shows his profile facing left. It is the first official portrait of George V to be used on coins minted by the Royal Mint. The sculptor's initials, 'B.M.', are visible at the bottom of the head. The reverse of the 1911 Gold Sovereign features the traditional design of Saint George and the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci, as well as the sculptor's initials B.P. and the year of issue. Small dent can be seen in 4th picture on side of coin. Tested with 22k acid and weighed for confirmation.
