Western Motors was founded in Galway by Jim McCormack. Jim and his Wife, Anne had a young family, Orla, Derval, Simon and James when Western Motors first opened the doors as a Massey Ferguson tractor dealership in 1964.

Tragedy struck the family in 1969 when Jim McCormack unexpectedly passed away at the age of 43, leaving Anne alone to raise her young family and take over the reins at a now successful dealership selling Massey Ferguson tractors and Austin cars. Anne had never worked in the business and was a nurse by profession!

Anne was a fast learner and driven by her desire to provide for her young family, she prospered in a totally male dominated industry. Anne took the decision to switch to the Fiat and Lancia franchises in 1971 and along with these she also took on George Moran as a director of the company. Anne continued as Managing Director until 1989 when she took a well deserved retirement. George continued to work in the company until 1997.
