Description
Original oil painting on board catalogued as a work by Irish artist Con Campbell, with “Kathy on Croagh Patrick” and the date 1993 inscribed on the reverse. Born in County Tyrone in 1946 and raised in Belfast, Campbell had his first major work displayed in the Ulster Museum in 1972. He is best known for his paintings of animals and rural Irish life, making this figurative mountain scene a particularly unusual example of his work. The tall composition is very effective, with Kathy in the foreground and the winding road, stone walls and dark hills drawing the eye upwards through the Croagh Patrick landscape. Thick, expressive brushwork gives the painting strong texture and far more presence in person than photographs fully capture. • Artist: Con Campbell • Title: Kathy on Croagh Patrick • Dated: 1993 • Medium: Oil on board • Original painting, not a print • Inscribed and dated on the reverse • Unframed Honest vintage condition with age-related surface cracking, paint loss and wear around the edges, all shown clearly in the photographs. It has been left untouched rather than over-restored and would look excellent presented in a simple dark floating frame. The styled room image is a display mock-up. The remaining photographs show the actual artwork, texture and condition in detail. A distinctive, dated Campbell with a subject very different from his more commonly seen animal studies.
