"Rush" (c. 2006) by Kevin Sharkey.

A striking example of the artist's signature visceral approach to contemporary abstract expressionism. • The artist’s monogram initials (KS) are subtly marked in the bottom left-hand corner of the canvas. 30x30cm unframed and 46x46cm framed. Artwork Description • Composition & Movement: The painting captures a powerful sense of controlled chaos and kinetic energy. True to its title, thick, sweeping, and gestural strokes of dark, near-black impasto slash across the canvas, creating an intense feeling of rapid movement and urgency. • Palette: A dramatic contrast of light and shadow defines the work. Deep, brooding tones of midnight blue, charcoal, and dark chocolate wrap around explosive, fiery undercurrents of crimson red and golden yellow, accented by subtle, unexpected flashes of teal. • Texture & Medium: Rendered in acrylic on canvas, the piece showcases heavily textured, fluid layers likely applied with a palette knife or heavy-handed brushwork. This builds a rich, multi-dimensional surface where colors bleed and collide dynamically. • Presentation: The artwork is housed in its distinctive, original presentation—a wide, padded off-white textured faux-leather frame featuring neat accent stitching, a neutral canvas/linen slip, and a elegant gilded inner lip that beautifully isolates the vivid color palette.
