Set of 6 Antique Minton 'The Views' VictorianTiles

A beautiful and increasingly difficult-to-find original and highly decorative complete set of six antique Minton pictorial tiles from one of Britain’s most celebrated Victorian ceramic manufacturers. These tiles belong to Minton’s scarce ‘The Views’ series introduced in 1885. Each tile features a different finely detailed architectural or historic landscape scene, transfer-printed in rich sepia-brown on an ivory coloured glazed ground. Subjects include castle ruins, Tudor buildings, old streets, cottages and a boatyard scene. Along with the circular Minton globe mark, each tile is impressed on the reverse: MINTONS CHINA WORKS STOKE ON TRENT One design bears the initials “L.T.S.”, associated with artist L. T. Swetnam, who contributed designs to this series alongside William Wise. Dimensions: Approximately 6 in / 15.2 cm square each Suitable for display, framing, a fireplace feature or a period restoration The tiles display beautifully and as expected for architectural ceramics approximately 140 years old, there is some slight edge wear, small surface marking and old fixing or mortar residue on the backs.
