2-day Workshop on teaming up with your horse

2-day Workshop on 31st May and 1sy June 2026 on our farm near Bantry/West Cork 1st day - Working with horses in harness on the land 2nd day - Long-distance Riding This weekend will give you the opportunity to explore two different areas of teaming up with your horse in a satisfying and rewarding way. The 1. day will be spent looking at harnessing your horse's power to use around the fields and forest - harrowing, pulling a cart or sled, hauling timber. There will be lots of hands-on practise with our trained and experienced horses in harnessing, long-reining, hitching up and working the horse in the field, and information on what equipment to use and how to train your horse for this work. The 2. day will be spent looking at long-distance riding (setting off with your horse on a leisure trip of a day or a few days of riding across the country). We will look at: Equipment for the horse Equipment for the rider Route planning Maps and navigation Where to stay for an overnight Safety considerations Feeding Health considerations Training for rider and horse Your host Sandra has experience in long-distance riding for over 12 years, she has ridden in many different parts of Ireland including a trip of 500km through the middle of Ireland along the Beara-Breiffne Way, and she is currently riding the Wild Atlantic Way in annual parts from Malin to Mizen. Sandra has worked with her horses in harness on their farm for many years and run these successful informative workshops since 2010.
