Description

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/womens-grass-measuring-calf-management-course-tickets-1980460403379 Tickets available via the above link Women-only course covering grass measuring and spring calf management, designed to give practical skills to improve grazing performance and calf health on farm. This course is delivered by Tim Casey (Cork Grassland Services) and Hazell Mullins, veterinary surgeon and dairy farmer, combining grassland expertise with practical, on-farm calf management. The day focuses on building confidence in two of the most important areas of spring dairy farming: grass and calves. A pre-course webinar will take place on Thursday 29th January at 8pm on Zoom and is a prerequisite for attending. This session will cover the basics of grass measuring, pasture management, and PastureBase Ireland, allowing the on-farm day to focus on hands-on learning. The first half of the on-farm day will focus on grassland management with Tim, developing practical skills in measuring and managing grass. The second half, led by Hazell, will focus on calf management during the busy spring period, with clear, practical guidance that can be applied immediately on farm. This course is suitable for women who are new to grass measuring, as well as those with some experience who want to build confidence. Grassland topics include: PastureBase setup, farm targets, grass wedge interpretation, measuring methods, new technologies, spring management, and grass allocation. Calf management topics include: Colostrum management, vaccination advice, milk replacer management, calf house hygiene, preventing weaning disease, and on-farm practical demonstrations with time for questions. Participants will receive course notes, step-by-step guides, and ongoing support. The course takes place on Hazell’s farm, with fresh baking, coffee, and food provided. This course is about building skills, confidence, and independence for spring on your farm.
