We had a brilliant LEAN tour at Applied Concepts today and are heading home full of ideas and excitement to really get stuck into our own LEAN journey. It was great to see LEAN principles in action and to learn from such a knowledgeable team.

BROGAN TRACTORS

The Belclare Sheep breed was a new word among sheep breeds in Ireland, when they appeared on the scene in the late 1970’s.

 

This new breed was developed at An Forus Taluntais research center at Belclare hence the name of the breed. The Belclare breed came about solely by the vision, dedication and foresight of one man, Dr. J.P. Hanrahan, An Forus Taluntais (Now Teagasc). Dr Hanrahan is a scientist in sheep breeding with much experience in Australia and elsewhere. Back home Dr Hanrahan saw the necessity to raise lamb numbers in the national flock where lamb percentage at the time stood at approx 125%. His initial work on the Belclare project involved research with ewes of many breeds that occasionally produced triplets. He later carried out trials with Finnish Landrace on Galway sheep. He next introduced Lleyn Sheep to the mix in the mid 70’s and so the nucleus of the Belclare was formed. The breed was first introduced to farmers in 1982 when a small number of sheep farmers were approached to breed rams for the institute which were bought back in the autumn for redistribution to interested sheep farmers.

 

Forming the Belclare Sheep Society

A meeting took place in the Royal Hoey Hotel, in Athlone on the 11th of October 1985. The purpose of the meeting was to form the Belclare Sheep Society. After long hours of discussions and suggestions the Belclare Sheep Society was formed and following officers were elected.

President: Dr J.P. Hanrahan, Chairman Mr. PJ O Dea, Galway, And Secretaries Mr Pat O’ Dea, Agricultural Institute, Mr. Joe Teasdale, Kilkenny, Committee: Mr. Niall Connelly, Louth, Mr. Pat Carey, Wicklow and Mr. Tom Sice, Galway.

 

The Early Belclare

The first Belclare sheep where called Belclare improvers and had a significant amounts of Finnish Landrace blood. Litter size was high but the breed lacked substance and conformation. To rectify this the Belclare’ s were crossed with Texel rams to produce what was termed the

Belclare Mark II from which today’s Belclare sheep have originated.

 

Today’s Belclare

The Belclare sheep that are found on Irish farms today are very different sheep from their ancestors that started the breed almost 40 years ago. Infusions of Texel blood coupled with rigorous selection and culling by dedicated Belclare breeders resulted in the specimens that

are seen on farms nowadays. This has allowed the Belclare not only to command the premier position as a maternal sire but also allows it to compete with terminal sire breeds as a breed that is able to sire rapidly growing fleshy lambs.

Just before Easy Track were recommended  to me idid not know the company but I found it very comfortable  dealing with them Joe and his staff could not do enough.for you I had a  old Spectra LL 500laser level it cam back working as new and the follow up wes brilliant Could not recommend  them enough

Hadn’t dealt with Easy Track before but needed a laser repaired and calibrated and working in athlone they weren’t too far away (Ferbane Offaly)  dropped my laser off met Joseph and Darren explained the problem no issue was told it could take a week to make necessary repairs. Fair enough I thought had a look at what they do etc. got back to site and  as on all jobs when you think one laser level will suffice for the week it never does! Rang Easy Track at 3pm the same day and purchased a spectra laser for a price I was happy with and Joseph dropped it to athlone the same evening at no extra charge either  so we’d have it for the next morning. You couldn’t ask for much more and as I’d only met the lads at lunch time I’d rate that a five star service. They also stock compactor plates cobra reels and many more items. I would have no hesitation in recommending Easy Track Ferbane.

Excellent service, I needed to get the spinning laser calibrated. I got in contact with Joe and the laser was calibrated and back on site the same day! Can’t recommend the lads enough.

My partner bought a 2008 Mazda Demio from Emerald Auto Sales the weekend gone and I have to say she (and I) couldn't be happier with it.

The car is immaculate and the service was incredible. We travelled down from Kerry by train and Ray, rather than leave us to walk from the train station (about 30 mins or so), came and picked us up! That was a touch of exellent customer service!

Ray wasn't pushy for the sale, gave us all the time we needed with the car before my partner made the decision to buy. It was the perfect experience imo.

The paperwork part was a dream. While my partner was dealing with the sale he even gave me the key to one of the other cars he has, even knowing I had no intention of buying it. I just liked the car and wanted to have a nose around it. By the time I finished she was just signing the receipt.

After the sale had completed we must have been another 10 or 15 minutes just chatting away with Ray about cars and Brazil (my partner is Brazilian) when he could have just done the whole "I've stuff to do, gotta go.." once the sale went through.

If you're looking for quality used cars then I would highly recommend Emerald Auto Sales. I'll be back next year for an upgrade on my own car.

Ray is an absolutely smashing guy, collected me from Portarlington railway station, sold me a 2019 renault kangoo at an absolute stele of a price, traveled all the way from Waterford by train as i couldn't belive the price. Im a firm believer if something is too good to be true it must be, but for the first time in my life i have been proven wrong .. Ray explained those negative reviews were left by his crazy ex and her even crazyier mother, disgusting, neither of them ever worked in there life's and leaving negative reviews on a hard working man's business profile

Claims to be a family run business, lone cowboy, accepted payment in full in cash, denied purchase was ever made. Car is still on his lot. Purchase at your own peril!

As seen from the reply below, this is the type of liar your dealing with, have his phone number and his address and phone contact, not mistaken about his “sales yard” he is willing to argue with customers online rather than rectify any issues or thievery he’s caused. He’s taken all a young ladies savings and is now denying any purchase was made. This is her car on his yard which he says she was “silly for purchasing without receipt” so there you are folks. Shame on him. Again, purchase at your peril.

Please be careful. Go to a more trustworthy dealership. I rarely ever leave reviews but honestly there's so many issues with this dealership that I just dont want others to go through the experience we had. Please go elsewhere for your own sakes
