The American agave (Agave americana) is a large, showy succulent plant, also known as the century plant. It is characterized by large, stiff, sword-shaped leaves that form a dense rosette. The leaves are typically gray-green or blue-green, with sharp thorns on their edges. After many years, usually 10-30, the plant blooms once in its life, producing a tall flower spike with yellow flowers, and then dies. However, it leaves numerous offshoots that can be used for propagation. Appearance: Large, spreading rosette of leaves, growing up to 2-3 meters in diameter and 2 meters in height. The leaves are thick, fleshy, stiff, and tipped with a sharp thorn. Additional, smaller thorns are found on the leaf margins.
