During this time many of its pilots made a name for themselves and became the most successful aviators in history: Adolf Galland, "Pips" Priller, Heinz Knoke, Molders ... to name but a few. They were all famous for their flying skills. Eric Hartman, the "blond knight of Germany", still holds the record of 352 victories. During the Second World War, several commercial manufacturers produced short leather jackets for general leisure and utility purposes. Luftwaffe fighter pilots adopted these jackets for their purposes, which seemed acceptable to the military authorities. No doubt they felt that this type of unofficial uniform played an important role in the pilots' morale - it was their uniform! As long as the jackets conformed to a basic design and colour (black or brown), they were accepted. The Ostmann jacket is lined with high quality brushed cotton fabric and provides just the right amount of warmth for colder days without being too much for normal everyday wear.
