Description
Fancy a vintage Marshall JMP 50 but haven't got the $3k to buy one? How about an amp that has all - well most of the right parts for a JMP, and was actually made by Marshall but doesn't bear the magic name? This Park 50 watt bass combo was built in 1979. Check the Marshall build ticket. it utilises the exact same Drake transformers as used in those crazily priced vintage Marshall badged heads and combos. They are the the 1202-164 mains, the 784-139 output, plus the mains choke, all mounted on a genuine Marshall chassis with the same Marshall ST1 iss. 202 PCB. These same transformers were used right through the 70s until the change to Dagnalls. So now you're thinking, "But this isn't a JMP!" True. But a good amp tech or experienced amateur can convert this by adding an extra preamp valve and reconfiguring the PCB and controls (with a few basic parts) to the either the two-channel 1987 or master volume 2204 specification for a helluva lot less than the price of an old Marshall. It's usable as a combo with its existing speaker (The original McKenzie 12") but could be rehoused in a head cab. (The prices of empty heads are, to my mind, outrageous as they are around £300. I think a creative person could remodel the combo case - and probably also re-use the levant covering. Just add a Marshall logo of the appropriate vintage.) Get in touch if you've got any questions would like to try the amp as it is or inspect it. Thanks for looking.
