The first, the P1 of 1923, was a failure. The Alfa Romeo P2 won the inaugural Automobile World Championship in 1925, taking victory in two of the four championship rounds when Antonio Ascari drove it in the European Grand Prix at Spa and Gastone Brilli-Peri won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. There was tragedy in the French race at Montlhery when Ascari fatally crashed whilst leading in his P2. Although 1926 brought drastic changes to the Grand Prix regulations the P2 remained competitive. Between 1924 and 1930 the P2 was victorious in 14 Grand Prix and other major events such as Italy’s Targa Florio. Along with the Bugatti Type 3, the P2 was one of the iconic Grand Prix cars of the 1920s. As world champions, Alfa Romeo incorporated the laurel wreath into their logo. The P2 was powered by a Alfa Romeo 8 (two straight 4 blocks) cylinders in line, 2 valves per cylinder, DOHC engine of 1,987cc with Twin Roots Superchargers and 2 Memini carburettors giving 155 bhp @ 5500 rpm in 1925. The model offered is of the winning car from the 1925 Italian GP driven by Count Gastone Brilli-Peri (I). Model is in good condition and is on original display base.
