The “A” stood for Alfieri Maserati (one of the Maserati brothers, founders of Maserati) and “6” for the in-line six-cylinder engine. A 2 Litre version of the original 1,500cc engine was developed initially with 120 bhp. This was used in the A6 GCS two-seater. “G” denoting Ghisa, cast iron block, “C” denoting Corsa and “S” Sports. One of the design's most recognisable features was a single headlight, “monofaro”, mounted in the grille. The 580 kg single seater and cycle winged racing version first appeared at Modena 1947 driven by Luigi Villoresi and Alberto Ascari winning the 1948 Italian Championship with Giovanni Bracco. Fifteen two-seater cars were made in total between 1947 and 1953. The A6GCS was powered by a Maserati 6 cylinder SOHC engine of 1,979cc with 3 Weber 36 DO4 Carburettors and 2 valves per cylinder giving 130 bhp at 6,000 rpm. Model is in good condition and is on original display base. The model does not have any other original packaging. More photographs are available on request.
