Dried basketry willow is suitable for use in basketmaking, garden structures and crafts. It’s a fantastic natural material that’s been used in Ireland for thousands of years. However, dried basketry willow is difficult to source in Ireland. Most weavers import in bulk from the UK, dealing with customs, certificates of hygiene (as it’s an untreated natural product), and hauliers. The easiest way to source willow is to grow your own supply. But if you don’t have that to hand, this willow is very versatile. Dried willow varieties available are: - 6ft Black Maul willow - €8 per kg - 6ft White willow - €18 per kg - 5ft White willow - €22 per kg - 4ft Dickie Meadows - €12 per kg - 4ft Flanders Red - €12 per kg - 4ft Steamed - €14 per kg Postage is €13 for up to 14kg. Black Maul willow. This silvery-grey variety is very strong and flexible. It’s a great all-rounder. Black Maul willow still retains its bark, so it needs to be soaked for 4-6 days and then mellowed for 1 day before weaving. Buff and White Willow. This is willow that’s been stripped of bark. It’s very easy to work with and great for beginners. Both buff and white willow is ready to weave with after just a few hours of soaking. Dickie Meadows & Flanders Red. Two lovely slender varieties. Great for fine work. Steamed Willow. This is Black Maul willow that's been boiled for several hours. This releases the tannins in the willow and the bark an attractive dark chocolatey blackish colour.
