Description

This was my COVID project. A complete "N" guage layout, with scale equivalent of nearly 3 Km of track, including 15 sets of points, 1 x 3 car + engine British Rail commuter train (era 1980's), 1 x freight engine with 15 freight cars, Guagemaster DCC Controller, main station with scale equivalent of over 400 metres of platform spread over 7 platforms, large booking office, freight sheds, freight loading bay, etc. There is a second commuter station, complete with car park and access to the village pub. Trains can pass through the station, or they can divert to a siding to allow through trains to bypass the station. The feature village has a total of 40 houses and shops, and there are various other buildings scattered around the layout. These include a village pub, the station master's house, railway cottages, and assorted outbuildings. The buildings are a mix of older Scalecraft, and newer Metcalf products. There are tunnels, a woodland, roads, level crossings, the lot. Assembled, it is in an L shape, measuring 220 cm x 110 cm at the longer side of the "L", and 56 cm x 70 cm on the shorter side. At scale, that's 716 m x 162 m on the long side and 82 m x 103 m on the shorter side. An imminent house move means that I must reluctantly dispose of my pride and joy. The beauty of "N" scale is that on a relatively small footprint, you can fit an incredible amount of "stuff". This layout has a total of 21 buildings, around 50 houses, and I nearly forgot, a whole bunch of cars, buses, telegraph poles, and some unassembled buildings. I'm including a large selection of modelling material, soils, trees, paints, weathering kits, balsa wood, glues, ballast, pins, fibres etc, mostly Woodland Scenic. I shudder to think what I spent on the layout, probably nearer € 2,000 than € 1,000 but the decision is made, and it's got to go. It will have to be disassembled of course, but putting it all back together, or completely changing the layout will be all part of the fun.
