Description
Rare 1918 RAF Dennison Gold Trench Watch – 72 Squadron Presentation, Baghdad A remarkable First World War period trench watch in a solid 9ct gold Dennison case, presented to Chief Master Mechanic Sydney A. Cox by 72 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Baghdad, November 1918. A genuine historical piece from the final weeks of the war, linked directly to an active RAF squadron in the Middle East theatre. The case is fully hallmarked for Birmingham and stamped .375 (9ct gold). Inside is a Swiss 15 jewel movement typical of the era, complete and visually clean. The watch features its original enamel dial with red 12, blued cathedral hands and subsidiary seconds. Fixed wire lugs and period leather strap remain fitted. Condition is honest for its age, with wear to the gold case, light cracks on the enamel dial and ageing to the strap. The movement has not been serviced in recent years and timekeeping is not guaranteed. A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine RAF presentation watch with direct squadron provenance. These late-WWI military pieces are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially with named engravings and gold cases. Sold as seen. Collectors and military historians will appreciate the significance of this watch.
