Description
Manufacturer: Érard, Paris/London. Made circa 1884 to 1887. One of the oldest working Erards in Ireland. Previous Owner: Count John Francis McCormack, Churchfields, Milltown, Dublin. Last Owner: Collector John McHugo, Grosvenor Road, Rathgar, Dublin. Played by: Count John Francis McCormack at his home in Milltown, Dublin. Played by: Pianist and former Prime Minister of Poland Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Played by: American Pianist and singer-songwriter Gerry Lee Lewis. Please note that this piano is incredibly old and is not suitable for an advanced player, as it lacks the dynamics and versatility of a contemporary grand piano. It still plays and holds it tune but is more a historical piece to be played on occasion, or for an absolute beginner to learn the basics on. A pianist visiting will appreciate how good it is for its great age and that it was previously played by Paderewski. This particular piano was played by the renowned Polish pianist and statesman Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860-1941) who was strongly associated with Érard, frequently championing their instruments through his worldwide concert tours. There is a brass plate attached to this piano mentioning that Paderewski played it. www.obriainpianogallery.com
